Sorry to possible young Corvette owners on here, but if I wanted to get a Corvette as a first car for my child, it’ll be because I want them dead.
I second what you said. They’re either getting a Camry or they’re getting whatever me or my wife is done driving with. (I’m 20 and I’m talking like I’m 45.)

Miatas are still relatively expensive to insure, especially for a first-time driver. The same goes for the Maxima.

I don’t know if they don’t care about the well being of their children or if some parents are just that stupid. I know my rwd, 5 speed, sports car may not be the “ideal” first car, but I saved up and bought it and I take care of it because I appreciate it. There are kids I know who’s parents bought them CTS-Vs, E90 M3s, C63 AMGs. These all become dangerous in the hands of teenagers and are a waste of money. My favorite is the kid who crashed his brand new Q7 so his dad bought him a 335i. I don’t know what goes through these people’s minds.

Same goes for the Safari vs. M3. Mostly because I loathed the fucking thing and didn’t care what happens to it. It mostly just comes down to how much you care about what you’re driving I think.

My dad had a friend and all his kids drove a ‘76 Suburban with a 454. His reasoning was that it cost so much f*cking money in gas, his kids wouldn’t have any money to buy drugs with. In fact they’d probably be so broke they’d just stay the hell home and not go anywhere that they might potentially be able to do something stupid. As far as I know, his kids all turned out to be successful people. Maybe he was on to something...
Someone else said XJ 4.0 4x4 with a manual, and I couldn’t agree more. My wife had the same car (but automatic) for her first and it served her well through high school, college, and the first 2 or 3 years she was out on her own. They are cheap to buy, cheap to own, practically indestructible, easy to fix if it is destroyed, doesn’t have too much power to get in trouble with, and they are thirsty, which keeps em poor.
